Representative Democratic Model- Electable Offices Part Thirty-Four (Session One) Balance Of Power In Democratic Models

Representative Democratic Model- Electable Offices Part Thirty-Four (Session One) Balance Of Power In Democratic Models

The Founding Fathers never wanted an government entity to be purely based on one democratic model. They believed in counterweights and they incorporated that in the US Constitution.

For example, the Vice-President (President Of the Senate) and the Speaker Of The House Of Representatives are supposed to have highly similar roles in their respective legislative bodies. The VP is in charge of organizing the U.S. Senate while the House Speaker is supposed to do the same for the House Of Representatives.

Yet the VP, despite presiding over a land-based democratic body, is elected by the People. The House Speaker, despite doing the same over a population-based democratic body, is chosen by House members. This appears to be contradictory but the Founding Fathers wanted those checks and balances in each legislative House.

Cliff Notes Version: No government entity to be purely based on one democratic model. Counterweights must exist.

The VP, despite presiding over a land-based democratic body, is elected by the People. The House Speaker, despite doing the same over a population-based democratic body, is chosen by House members. All legislative houses must have checks and balances.
