How The Legal Profession Established America's Medical Monopoly-(A Harsha Sankar article)
Dear Citizen, August 2005
In regards to the President's speech about healthcare costs, obviously tort and regulatory reform are vitally needed. However, while the contamination of health-care originates in the legal profession,a major factor in costs comprising one-sixth of the economy is the nexus of medical professionals, healthcare and education bureaucrats, and registered lobbyists. The iron triangle of the AMA, FDA, and PAC's has created a medical monopoly that holds the citizenry hostage and has driven millions of jobs overseas. Both GM & Ford echoed the president's sentiments as they implemented massive layoffs.
Americans are in midst of an unparalleled domestic crisis.Too many are enriching themselves. As CEO pay in comparison to the average worker makes the daily news, how about the pay of many doctor's,hospital employees', regulators', "educrats", and pharmaceutical executives? Not only have they passed on the costs, many have passed on their margins and a significant amount more. The massive fee-gouging in the legal profession is obviously contagious. Nearly 13 million work in healthcare. By 2012, one-half of career changes will be to healthcare. This will break the back of the manufacturing and sales sector. There is no excuse for the phenomenom of one major illness causing abject impoverishment
Costs must be brought into strict account with emphasis on quality, efficiency, and competition. Since medical insurance is purchased because medical care is unaffordable, the concept of self-insurance and fee for service must be reborn. Americans are the most drugged and "operated on" nation, per capita and overall.
