Commentary On Elections-Part Eight

Commentary On Elections-Part Eight

The American Constitution did not implicitly call for direct popular vote for electors of federal head executives. While direct popular vote for electors of federal head executives at the congressional district level is compatible with the ideals of a representative democratic republic (a republic which has been "federalized" since 1865), the present system of choosing the POTUS and VPOTUS does not even do that. Direct popular vote for federal head executives at the state level is the current system.
The problem with today's flawed system that has existed for decades is it allows the American people to focus too much of their attention on who the President is, will be, and his activities. In America now, there are over 150 million+ voters who honestly believe his or her vote matters because of direct elections. When a POTUS is supposed to be chosen for his/her competence and effectiveness in presiding over the administration of the federal bureaucracy and in commanding the U.S. military, how can any of the 150 million+ voters claim to be qualified in assessing such traits? That really is an impossibility.
When people believe they can control the Presidency through their direct vote, the Presidency instead "ends up" controlling the People. The President and even Vice-President are not meant to be elected by the People. They are meant to be chosen indirectly by the People through the use of electors.
There are another phenomena due to the flawed choosing of the President. Currently only party insiders or billionaires can run for office. Just as importantly the President generates more entertainment value than scrutiny over his job-related efficiencies and basic performance when he/she is directly chosen by the People. The People tend to assess the President on irrelevant factors rather than on his/her core competencies.
When the President is chosen the way he/she is supposed to be chosen (through use of electors), the publicity and fanfare become less and he/she is allowed to specifically perform all Presidential duties without being swayed by the "Winds Of Populism".

Cliff Notes Version: Direct choosing of head executives at both the federal and even state levels is both inept and dysfunctional. This leads to tyranny!
