Commentary On Elections-Part Nine
The drafters of the U.S. Constitution did not want direct elections for federal head executives (President or Vice-President) because when the entire vote base throughout the nation puts all their votes in just 50 pots, these two officeholders become royalty.
Elected "monarchy" is elected tyranny. Tyranny is tyranny no matter what the shape or form. Julius Caesar was killed by the Roman Senate because they knew the unbridled support he received from the People would destroy the Republic of Rome and instead would pave the way for his tyrannical dictatorship. 2000 years later, the same principle hold true. It must be noted that the title Kaiser or Czar originates from Caesar. When too many people vote for a candidate who will not just have influence over them but over other people in far off regions, that elected candidate will invariably become an elected Caesar.
The choosing of POTUS and VPOTUS should really never be a popularity contest. The choosing of these positions should rather be based on the specific capabilities of candidate(s) and also on how a candidate can handle specific responsibilities.
Cliff Notes Version: Direct elections for President and even Vice-President leads to elected tyranny. When people vote for any candidate who can effect others from far off regions, tyranny will be the result.
