Race, Religion, And Politics In Israel-Palestine (Part Six)
Listed are verses in the Old Testament of The Holy Bible (Torah) that could be perceived as justifying Jewish exclusivity of a certain region in the Middle East.
Genesis 26:3 God speaks to Jacob later known as Israel
Numbers 33:51-56 King James Version (KJV)
"Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, When ye are passed over Jordan into the land of Canaan; then ye shall drive out all the inhabitants of the land from before you, and destroy all their pictures, and destroy all their molten images, and quite pluck down all their high places: and ye shall dispossess the inhabitants of the land, and dwell therein: for I have given you the land to possess it. And ye shall divide the land by lot for an inheritance among your families: and to the more ye shall give the more inheritance, and to the fewer ye shall give the less inheritance: every man's inheritance shall be in the place where his lot falleth; according to the tribes of your fathers ye shall inherit. But if ye will not drive out the inhabitants of the land from before you; then it shall come to pass, that those which ye let remain of them shall be pricks in your eyes, and thorns in your sides, and shall vex you in the land wherein ye dwell. Moreover it shall come to pass, that I shall do unto you, as I thought to do unto them."
1 Chronicles 16:14-18 New International Version
14 He is the Lord our God; his judgments are in all the earth.
15 He remembers[a] his covenant forever, the promise he made, for
a thousand generations,
16 the covenant he made with Abraham, the oath he swore to Isaac.
17 He confirmed it to Jacob as a decree, to Israel as an everlasting covenant:
18 “To you I will give the land of Canaan as the portion you will inherit.”
A few more will be quoted later. It must be noted no one really knows what was stated in the Old Testament. Meaning is always lost in translating Aramaic and Ancient Hebrew to English. Moreover subtleties in usage usually means that meanings of verses are altered over thousands of years.
All must remember that Jesus was a reasonable man. It must additionally be taken into account that the New Testament and Christianity was a departure from the Old Testament and Judaism.
Jesus would never agree that a certain racial or even religious group should be excluded from a certain land. He would never agree to their forcible removal from a land that they had inhabited for a millennial period of time.
Yet people push a certain dogma due to dogma that unfortunately has been taught in many churches for centuries. Jesus believed in The Golden Rule. He would want his believers to do onto others as they would do onto them. The only kingdom and territory that he promised those who followed him was the pearly gates of Heaven. He never promised anyone of anything earthly. Rather it was Satan who promised Jesus that and yet Jesus refused.
All must understand the preceding so that a global war is averted. The "crusades" need to stop otherwise humanity will perish.
