Performance bonds, not signature gathering, is what should be required from candidates
A citizen should not have to gather signatures to become a candidate for office. The satisfaction of Constitutional requirements (federal and state) is all that is necessary for eligibility purposes.
However, all candidates have to post a performance bond so that if a candidate fails to start his duties as an officeholder or complete a major portion of his/her term, he or she has to make a financial payment to the treasury.
Cliff Notes Version: A performance bond, and not signature gathering, is what should be required from all constitutionally eligible candidates.
