The Differences Between Dictatorship And Tyranny

Most find the terms dictator and tyrant to mean the same. That is not the case.

Dictatorship means people in office wielding lawful authority are not chosen by the citizenry, directly or indirectly, through the election or selection process.

Tyranny occurs when any entity (individual or group) infringes on the basic rights and liberties of any individual, group of people(citizens and non-citizens alike), and the people at large.

Individuals, groups, and the People have the right to receive protection of their basic rights, to receive public safety, and to receive uniform treatment by all comprehensible and clear meaning law.
In most cases, dictatorship and tyranny go together. However there are going to be occasions and circumstances in which dictatorship is necessary, even it is temporary, to root out and quell tyranny.

Dictatorship obviously should have a shorter lifespan than democracy but it can be used to fix the ills of a flawed democracy in order to suppress tyranny. Read my next post to see when dictatorship on a temporary basis can be used.
